Another Skirt Finished

Hi friends!

I did tell you on my last post that I was sewing up a skirt for myself. I have been on vacation and am now back and have finished my skirt.

So first I'm going to tell you a little about the pattern. I got this FREE skirt pattern from craftsy

There is a link on the designers web site. http://so-sew-easy.com/

You can search her website for: Flouncy Bouncy Skirt
On the tutorial page there is the link to the craftsy pattern.

This is a PDF pattern you can print and tape together yourself. It has multiple sizes.

I used a knit. And I need to add here that I bought the material at a big box store for 2 bucks a yard. So let me also say you get what you pay for. That being said I have not sewn garments very much so I did not want a lot of money in this skirt just in case it didn't work out.

I do like the skirt and the fit is pretty good for me so I will buy some better quality fabric and make this skirt again.

I hope this helps some of you who are considering garment sewing to step out and try something new.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Hugs and best stitches to you,
Michelle

A Finish and what I'm working on

I finished a baby quilt over the weekend.
I thought I was going to have to throw it in the trash. It was in the shape of a retangle but I decided to spiral quilt it to just give visual interest.

See all the wrinkles? Actually they were more like peaks. Ugh.....no amount of pulling would make it lay flat. I was about to throw it in the trash. I just threw it in the washer and hoped for the best.

Here it is after the wash. Just a few ripples on the boarder. The mother sent me a message to tell me she was in love with it.

So now to what I'm working on.

Finally decided to cut out a skirt.

I used knit for this skirt. I will post more about the skirt when I finish it.
I did get half of it done.

The next picture is of my design wall. No designs just some of what I have worked on over the summer while I haven't been posting over here.

I hope you have a great end to the summer and a wonderful week.

Hugs and best stitches to you,

Verse for Sunday

Well....
Today I don't have a verse for you as such but a line from a song.
Today the church that I attend's choir along with 4 other church choirs will blend together to preform in concert to end the summer.
It's called: Celebration of Praise
There is a song we will sing called: Victor's Crown
And in that song there is a line that is written: Hallelujah  Jesus You have over come the world

This ran through my head so much this week until I had to put that in my journal.

I hope you have a great week and find a song to sing.

Hugs and best stitches to you,

A New Sewing Adventure

I know, I know I normally talk about quilting or some sort of patchwork on here but......

I started sewing garments...well one so far. I made myself a skirt.

This is the pattern that I choose.
It is made by the pattern company NewLook and is # A6288 U.S. sizes: 8-20
I bought this at a big box store for you guessed it $2.97 I figured when I bought it if I never used it I would not be out that much money.

Now I wear a size 12 in store bought clothes. That being said using stretchy fabric I cut this skirt out at a size 18.

The skirt I made is just like the one the model is wearing. It is almost the same as the popular "Maxi Skirts" that you have seen in stores and online.

You might notice that the pattern says just 4 knits. That is what I choose to use. Now I know what you are thinking for your first garment you choose KNIT!
I did but......not without doing much research. I found a video on you tube that explained how to sew with knits.

It is from Vanessa from Crafty Gemini you can click the link to see her blog but I found her on You Tube.
Here is the first video of her's I watched to find out all about knits.

Scrappy Log Cabin Table Topper

I made a Scrappy Log Cabin table topper recently so I thought I would share it with you.

There was a Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt Along going at one time over on instagram and I decided to take part.

Just a note here most of the fabrics I used in the table topper were not my scraps. I purchased them from Sew Deerly Loved on Etsy.

So here we go.

Things started out o.k. but if you look close you can see that some of the "colored" logs ended short and some ended long. So I tried to fix them.

This looks better now ending with the colored logs on the long side.

Rainbow Baby Quilt

I have finished another baby quilt. I thought I might share it with all of you.

This again is another jelly roll by Robert Kaufman.

I have already made one baby quilt with this very same jelly roll a few months back and it looks totally different. You can find that post HERE I call that one my "Modern Baby Quilt"

This quilt I am calling my "Rainbow Baby Quilt"
So here we go....

As you can see this is Very different look for this same jelly roll. The "Modern Baby Quilt" was made for a boy baby. "Rainbow Baby Quilt" is made for a girl baby.

A Review

Hi there!

Just wanted to stop over and write a review on something that I have purchased over the past month or so.

This is a Test, This Is Only a Test  if this had been an actual emergency.....just kidding!

I am going to try this and see what kind of response I get. Remember these are things I purchased to use for myself no one has asked me to write these things here. These are my personal opinions only.

I want to talk about: Clover Fork Pins

I purchased these from Amazon but I first saw these pins over at Lori Holts Blog

I think it was when she was making four patch units in a scrappy block. Image that!

Happy New Year 2015

Happy New Year Friends!

Well it is now officially 2015 and you know that I don't make new years resolutions. I pick a word and try as hard as I can to implement that word into my everyday life.

Now I am not saying that I always accomplish this (I am human) but I try to stretch myself to get out of my comfort zone or to simply try a new aspect of what the Lord is teaching me.

I won't go into great detail about last years word but I will mention it here and then we will move on. I have created a tab at the top so if you are new here you can go back and look at previous words of the year.

2014 word of the year was...

"Selflessness" is a tall order on anyone's scale. But it has been and can be done. Did I display selflessness in my life at all times.? NO.....
Did I try too? Absolutely! Did I try harder to be selfless this year? YES....
That was the whole point of picking a word for the year. Picking a word of the year helps me rely on the Lord more to implement that word (or action) in my life.

The word of the year for 2015.....
