A Quilt Top Finish and Anniversary Giveaway

Well I did it! I finished my "i heart you" quilt top. Now I know a quilt is not finished until the last stitch goes into the binding. I am going to show you the process it took to make this quilt and you will know why I am so excited.

First I don't remember where exactly I saw the pattern at, it might have been on Pintrest. This pattern is by Vanessa Christenson of V and Co. You can buy the pattern in PDF format from her website HERE

This is what Vanessa's quilt looked like:

I really liked the look of her quilt when I first saw it.

Until I saw this one

I had this pinned on my Pintrest board Quilted with LOVE  You can see it on the website HERE. I read on the website that she used fabrics from Connecting Threads. So I ordered some charms from Connecting Threads and realized I didn't have enough so I ordered some stacks and cut them into charms.

I printed Connecting Threads chart to see what colors I wanted to get.

I got them all cut into charms.

How in the world do I choose which ones to use....ugh!

Then you have to choose how many of each color to use.

Then you have to trim, trim, trim them down.
(I was sharing a lot on Instagram)

The next few pictures are of me trying to sew this quilt together. I had to iron all the seems open to reduce the bulk of the quilt.

This is the top of the heart. The left is all put together and the right is just laid out.

Now today I finished the quilt and was able to take some pictures this afternoon.

I only took two pictures inside. I just like the look of the pictures outside better.

The natural light looks so much better.

It was a very windy day here for some reason.

So that is the finished quilt top. I made the wall hanging quilt. Well almost, the wall hanging has 6.5 inch boarders but mine has 2.5 inch boarders. I needed it to be small because of where I wanted to hang it. There is also a bed sized version on the pattern if you would like to make this for your bed.

Now I know you are wondering about the title of this post. The anniversary part anyway. Well this month will be my one year anniversary here on my blog. So I have decided to have a giveaway to celebrate! Yeah! Here is what I am giving away.

This is some of the half square triangles and charm squares I had left over.
There is actually going to be two winners. Yes I said TWO WINNERS!! Each winner will receive 8 half square triangles and 51 charm squares. Here's how you can win one of these sets.

  1. Hello Michelle,
Thank you for sharing your journey with this quilt with all of us. I love it! I follow you on Google and would love to win the half square triangles and charm squares. I would probably add them to the stash I have started for a future quilt. The quilt will be a king size quilt made of Hexies with no two colors alike. I have been saving fabrics for years, and will hope to have enough within the next few years.

  2. Wow - what depth, color and movement your heart has. I love it! I always like to read how a quilt is created. Thanks for sharing. I'm now a follower, but don't include me in the giveaway - my stash is about to bury me -lol.

  3. Congratulations on your anniversary. These are lovely and I enjoyed your tale of making the heart quilt. The outside pictures do look much better, I wonder why? These would make a lovely patchwork tote bag. I have been wanting to make one for awhile, but keep getting sidetracked. I follow on gfc.

  5. Hello and congratulations! I found your blog today for the first time and was drawn in by that beautiful heart quilt, because the colors and half triangles make it look like it's built of jagged shards of stained glass -- it's just gorgeous! I signed up to follow via bloglovin. If I win I will use them in a star sampler quilt I'm making for my daughter with a dark background and bright colored stars. I am also a follower of Jesus Christ, and appreciate what you wrote in your introduction. sarah@forrussia.org

  6. I liked the original heart quilt, but I love yours. It is so bright and happy. We have a friend who is facing a bone marrow transplant in the next few weeks and that looks like the perfect quilt to make. I would use your fabrics as a starting point for that quilt. Thanks so much for sharing and for the fantastic giveaway. I am a follower. Just sent you an email stating this but when I came back my comment hadn't been published yet.

  7. That heart quilt is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! First time visitor and now a follower on Feedly! I also shared your giveaway on my blog's Facebook page.

I'd either turn all the remaining charms into HST to make a little HST wall hanging or cut charms of my Essex linen and then make a HST wall hanging.

I have made a pixelated heart quilt in pink so when I saw the V and co quilt pattern, I didn't think I would make. But when I see your brightly multi colored one I want to win those squares, buy some more and the pattern and make it

  10. Hi, Michelle, I just wanted to say I love your fabric selections! Maybe it's just me, but I really like this so much better than the original all pink one. All those bright colors really pop! I also like that the pattern appears kind of "random" in terms of which direction the triangles face. Congratulations!

    1. Sara, I hope the pattern is random I didn't read anything that said they had to be turned a certain way. If they were supposed to be turned all the same way.... oops! Wouldn't be the first time I didn't follow a pattern to the letter.

I'm not entering the giveaway, I live overseas and plan on having a big solids charm giveaway in June, but I wanted to share the tutorial I used to make the comments have numbers so you don't have to count, but I also see you comment here too, do you get your comments in your e-mail? http://www.sewathomemummy.com/2013/01/tips-tricks-tuesdays-rachel-sew-happily.html

If I won, I would make a quilt for my grandson for his new "car" bed (he just got out of his crib and got a bed shaped like a racing car) I would put "car" blocks throughout the quilt, so it would be "especially his"

  31. I LOVE your quilt! I'm kind of afraid of HSTs, especially THAT MANY of them. I may need to conquer my fear. :-) I've promised two quilts for donation to hospitals and need to get some bright, cheerful colors... If I were to win your drawing I think I'd like to use the charms to make a wall hanging quilt, maybe using my twister tool I haven't tried out yet! (following you on bloglovin)

  39. Following you on Google+... Found your blog through the linky at SewCanShe (yours was my favorite pic!)... Still new to the quilting blogsphere, but really enjoying the content that I find. What would I do with the HSTs and the charm squares? Attempt my own V&Co heart quilt, of course! I'm not a big fan of hearts on anything, though. Maybe I can change it up to a big pinwheel? I <3 pinwheels!
